I love the rich and intricate details of Dolce&Gabbana. It teases the senses with its layered and minute attention to color and texture. Although examined piece by piece, their signature looks can scream gaudy or over-the-top, taken all together, they create a hyper-real dream world, exactly what we can imagine the king and queens of a world that never existed wore 300 years ago, an alternate timeline of earth if Dolce and Gabbana had lived centuries ago. They and Alexander McQueen have that touch, to weave history and fantasy together and produce a magical, ethereal world. At Sasi Bon, we also play with color and pattern, as much as our medium allows us to. Color treated stones, crystals, pearls even imperfect ones, also offer that strange quality, of a nature which is not quite natural. It has been transformed and transmuted. Maybe they do exist somewhere, yet unfound despite our best efforts, but we created them here first because we can imagine it right now.
Fall/Winter: Bright royal blue and deep purple will be hot colors for Fall/Winter. Not only do they fall into the always-popular jewel tones we see every year, they pair very well with wardrobe winter staples of black and charcoal. As we revel in autumn’s chill, sip hot chocolate, and nibble on pumpkin pie, we have to ask ourselves: do we really want to dress like a pumpkin as well as eat it? Orange is a great color, but there must be other colors ou there appropriate for the season without being inspired by a delicious food item. We have not read the French classic The Scarlet & The Black but the title is very dramatic, n’est-ce que pas? Do you remember the iconic movie if the 1990’s Clueless? Do you remember the fabulous matching tartan outfits worn by the two main characters, Cher, played to perfection by Alicia Silverstone and Stacy Dash? This movie has been on our mind lately when we see the re-emergence of tartan in the latest fashion pages. Not that tartan or plaid ever went out of style. It was always easy to find tartan scarves and mini skirts, but the trendiest looks now feature tartan dresses, tights, jackets, and coats. You don’t have to be Scottish to appreciate this traditional pattern. While bold prints are always great, accessorizing with it is sometimes a difficult prospect.
